Another one of the important Sanskar among the 16 Sanskars in Hindu community is the Annaprashan Sanskaar. In Sanskrit, Annaprashan means the 'grain commencement' and holds a special place in the child's life born in Hindu community. It has alternative names also which are given according to different places like Mukhe in Bengal; Choroonu in Kerala; Bhatkhulai in Garhwal Hills. The ceremony of Annaprashan Sanskar includes the feeding of solid food to the child for the first time after birth. Important points of Annaprashan Sanskar Ceremony

There are certain things that should be kept in mind to make Annaprashan ceremony successful:

• This ceremony is done in even months for boys, like 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th.
• For girls, odd months should be chosen for this ceremony, like 7th, 9th, or 11th.
• A proper bath is given to the child and then he/she wears new clothes.
• Priest is called to perform the Puja for the Annaprashan ceremony.
• The food given to the child is generally white rice cooked in ghee along with jaggery or honey.
